08 Jan New Year’s Resolution Already Broken? Try Again with a Money Saving Approach!
We aren’t here to judge you. If you’ve already broken your New Year’s resolution, you’re in the majority. We think everyone should get a second, or even third, chance at a resolution. Here’s what we suggest – do something that is going to show you some serious savings this year. If you can quit smoking, put that at the top of the list, but if you can’t, there is a much easier way to save a couple hundred bucks this year – stopping the heating and cooling leaks in your home.
The first thing to do is take a look at this post about finding the hidden energy costs in your home. That’s okay, we’ll give you a few minutes.
That article is really the tip of the iceberg. We’ve seen all of the items mentioned in that list and then some. Many of the solutions to air and insulation problems can be done in a few weekends, but if you aren’t really up to it – we can do them for you. The beauty of getting these energy leaks fixed is that they will continue saving you money for years and years. In addition to recouping your investment, these fixes make your house more energy efficient and more attractive to potential buyers (which drives up the value of your home).
You don’t have to make all of the changes right away. In fact, it might be cost prohibitive to do so. Instead, start with sealing air leaks and adding insulation, then move on to changing out water fixtures. And, if you haven’t switched out your light bulbs, by all means do that before anything else.
If you are really excited about energy savings and just can’t wait to read more about it (don’t worry, we won’t tell), check out the government site all about it.
